"Composition is important. It shouldn’t be neglected. No matter how well you paint, the paintings will fail if you don’t pay enough attention to composition. It is very difficult and often impossible to adjust a faulty composition later on, so everything has to begin with it. 

It is not simply a boring obstacle to overcome.but a very interesting subject that will potentially make more difference than anything else for your work.

Success and failure in painting will be directly tied to the objectives set for students working on the proposed exercises.

There is very little agreement in art world (and the world in general) regarding what constitutes a successful painting. The notions change all the time. Contemporaries don’t agree with each other. 

New generations negate those who came before them. Yet, great paintings exist and seem to overcome all these differences. Why? As painters we want to know. This talk is more about asking the right questions than obtaining the correct answers. 

The class is a departure point for the independent work that will follow by you. They are meant to focus our efforts on several painting issues that are likely to make a big difference when addressed"
