"In this painting course, you will learn how to paint the portrait using primarily form methodology. Form painting is a traditional concept invented prior to Monet’s “Painting Light” and progressed generation to generation, where the painter or draftsman sculpts volume as it relates to the light source, rather than optically.

This paint “what you know” rather than “paint what you see” process is crucial for creating virtuosity in our work.

This workshop will cover the properties of hue/value/chroma, physics of light, Munsell color system and how all this applies to any subject such as the portraiture, figure and still life. The academic concepts will be discussed through the prism of contemporary artwork as it relates to our personal voice and style.

As a result of this course students will be adding form knowledge to their toolbox, the most powerful tool for creating volume and clarity in painting, in the practice of drawing and painting"
